He was one of the genre’s top stars in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Grace Baptist Church’s website says its congregation was founded by five black women in 1888.

Ellen DeGeneres Named AIDS Envoy; US Pledges New Funding

The Obama administration has announced $60 million in additional funding to fight AIDS transmission in sub-Saharan Africa, and a new special envoy to raise global awareness about the deadly disease: Ellen DeGeneres.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says the actress will “bring her sharp wit and big heart, and her impressive TV audience and 8 million followers on Twitter” to support U.S. efforts to save the lives of those suffering from HIV/AIDS.
Clinton says the money will help scale up and assess new prevention strategies.
She said Tuesday that more effective prevention methods were driving infections down, making it possible to treat more people. She said that is allowing health campaigners for the first time to “get ahead of the pandemic,” and make progress toward establishing an AIDS-free generation.

The Duggars Expecting 20th Child

The Duggars have their 20th child on the way!
“19 Kids and Counting” stars Michelle and Jim Bob will welcome their next child in the spring, People reported.
“We are so excited,” the Duggar mother, 45, who is three-and-a-half months along, told the mag. “I feel good. I am past the sickness stage now.”
The couple’s most recent child, Josie, born on Dec. 10, 2009, is doing well after being born premature at just 25 weeks.
“It is a miracle. Josie is the most energetic, busy little almost-2-year-old,” Michelle told the mag. “She is short, and yet she can keep up with the big girls and she thinks she is just as big as they are. We are amazed at what she can do.”
According to dad Jim Bob, his wife is doing better than ever.
“Michelle is probably in better health now than she was 10 years ago,” the 46-year-old said. “She has been getting on an elliptical for about an hour a day and is very careful of what she eats.”
During her last pregnancy, the Duggar mother was diagnosed with preeclampsia and is now under the care of a high-risk pregnancy doctor. She is eating very healthy with plenty of protein, vegetables and skipping the caffeine – along with getting plenty of rest.
“We are just going to do the best we can,” she explained. “I am taking a nap every day, and we are just taking good care.”
Jim Bob added, “If we had lived by fear after Michelle had preeclampsia after her second delivery, we would have missed out on all our wonderful blessings. So many of her pregnancies have gone extremely well.”
One aspect of their latest pregnancy that will be different is Michelle’s first scheduled C-section.
“I’ve never had a planned C-section,” Michelle told the mag. “So this one will be different.”
In addition to their youngest daughter Josie, the couple is also parents to Joshua, 23 (who has two children, Mackynzie, 2 and Michael, 4 months, with wife Anna, 23), twins Jana and John-David, 21; Jill, 20; Jessa, 19; Jinger, 17; Joseph, 16; Josiah, 15; Joy-Anna, 14; twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah, 12; Jason, 11; James, 10; Justin, 8; Jackson, 7; Johanna, 6; Jennifer, 4; and Jordyn, 3.
The season finale of “19 Kids and Counting” airs tonight at 9 PM on TLC.

A scene from ‘Spartacus: Vengeance’Caption A scene from ‘Spartacus: Vengeance’
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- He hasn’t even made his debut as the new star of Starz’s “Spartacus” franchise, but Liam McIntyre clearly has won over the network, because the series has already been renewed for a third season.
On Monday, Starz revealed that “Sparatcus,” which premieres its second season – “Spartacus: Vengeance,” on January 27, 2012, will definitely be coming back.
“There is no denying the impact ‘Spartacus‘ has had in the marketplace with fans across the globe thirsting for the continuation of the epic tale,” Starz Media Managing Director, Carmi Zlotnik, said in a statement. “‘Vengeance’ brings unparalleled action and drama to STARZ viewers in January. We are thrilled to come to an early agreement that allows the writers and talent to get right back to work in preparing for Season 3.”
Production on the third season of the franchise, is expected to begin early next year in New Zealand.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Liam took over the role of Spartacus, with the blessing of original series star Andy Whitfield, who passed away in September after a battle with cancer.
Liam and the cast – Lucy Lawless, Dustin Clare and Manu Bennett – recently wrapped up Season 2 and the actor recently told Access he left the series, which now follows the ex-gladiators after they begin to form an army, in pain.
“I certainly beat my body into submission… It’s like a tenderizing thing. It’s good — it means there’s cool things in the show, which is a good thing,” he noted.

J.R. Martinez Takes The Lead As Maks & Len Mend Fences On ‘Dancing’

“Dancing with the Stars” has become J.R. Martinez’s world and everyone else is just dancing in it.
On Monday, the Army veteran and former “All My Children” star trumped his competition by a mile, scoring the first perfect score of Season 13, and then, in the second “Instant Dance” round – he scored the second, taking home a perfect 60 out of 60 points for the night.
“Oh my God,” a flabbergasted J.R. said after earning his second 30 points on Monday, for an instant jive (the contestants were given their music during the live competition, giving them just half a show to rehearse their second number). “I don’t have anything to say.”
But the judges – including notoriously tough judge Len Goodman – had plenty.
“You’ve got the X-factor and the feel good factor mixed together and you’ve come out here with the most fantastic jive,” Len said.
Carrie Ann Inaba said J.R., who performed with professional Karina Smirnoff, was “in a class all your own.”
J.R. was inspired to achieve the marks after landing in the middle of the pack just last week, and he made his goal known – to earn the first 30 — from the first dance, which he performed earlier in the evening — a gorgeous waltz, to “What the World Needs Now Is Love.”
“It was like a musical Valentine card,” judge Bruno Toniolo commented.
That first perfect score thrilled J.R., who couldn’t help but grab the mic from show co-host, Brooke Burke-Charvet, after round 1.
“I want to thank my mom, God, everybody, thank you America,” he said, laughing. “Justin Bieber, I will never say never.”
J.R. – with Karina — bested his nearest celebrity competition by eight points.
Landing in a tie for second were couples – Ricki Lake and Derek Hough, and a much-improved Hope Solo with Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
Surprisingly, Maks and Len even seemed to make amends, following their bust up earlier in the season.
“This was fantastic,” Len said, brushing off light critiques of the pair from Carrie Ann and Bruno. “It was everything a jive should be.”
So moved by the praise, Maks even went over and gave Len a kiss on the cheek.
The Leaderboard for Nov. 7 was:
J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff took home 60/60
Ricki Lake and Derek Hough earned 52/60
Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy also earned 52/60
Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke took home 51/60
Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus earned 44/60

Jackson Family Sounds Off On Conrad Murray Verdict

It was an emotional day on Monday for the family of Michael Jackson, as Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the King of Pop’s 2009 death.
Following the trial, many of Michael’s family members – who were on-hand for the reading of the verdict in Los Angeles – spoke out about the trial’s outcome.
“Justice was served,” Michael’s father Joe and brother Jermaine both told Access Hollywood outside of the courthouse on Monday.
La Toya Jackson took to her Twitter page — both before and after the verdict — to sound off.
“Verdict is FINALLY IN!!! I’m on my way! I’m shaking uncontrollably!” La Toya Tweeted in the run up to Dr. Murray being found guilty, following it up with a message of “VICTORY!!!!!” after the conviction was revealed.
“Now, I’m happy,” an emotional La Toya told Access after exiting the courthouse.
“Michael I love you and I will continue to fight until ALL are brought to justice,” she Tweeted about an hour after the trial was over.

Charlie Sheen Gets Back To Work

Charlie Sheen is having a blast of a time being back at work – literally.
Over the weekend, the actor posted photos on his WhoSay.com account, including one showing the actor dodging an explosion on the set of “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III.”
“this is at least TWO AND A HALF times more fun than my last gig,” Charlie wrote to accompany the explosion photo, a reference to his former job — as the star of the CBS comedy, “Two and a Half Men.”
The film, about a graphic designer, whose life takes a turn for the worse when his girlfriend dumps him, is being directed by Roman Coppola and stars Charlie, alongside Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman.
In addition to the new film, Charlie has another project in the works – his new sitcom, “Anger Management,” which late last month found a home on FX.
The sitcom, based around the big screen 2003 film of the same name, will begin airing in summer 2012, FX previously confirmed.

Kelly Osbourne Out Of Hospital After Head Injury

Kelly Osbourne says she has been released from a Miami hospital after being treated for a head injury.
The 27-year-old “E! Fashion Police” co-host Tweeted on Sunday that she was given the “all clear” and was released from Mercy Hospital, which declined comment Monday.
The nature of the injury and how Osbourne was hurt were not immediately clear. She tweeted that she had cracked her head open, though her publicist has not released any details.
Osbourne was in Miami attending a model casting call for Madonna’s Material Girl clothing line.
Osbourne found fame after appearing on the reality series “The Osbournes” alongside her family, including rock star Ozzy Osbourne. She has recorded several albums and appeared on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2009.

Kris Jenner Dishes On Kim’s Split; Is Kardashian Clan Angry Over ‘SNL’ Spoof?

Kris Jenner stops by Access Hollywood Live in Burbank, Calif., on November 7, 2011Caption
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Kris Jenner is speaking out about daughter Kim Kardashian’s split from Kris Humphries after just 72 days of marriage. Does Kris think Kim and the NBA star will reconcile or is there a possibility her reality star daughter could end up back with former flame Reggie Bush?
“Nothing about the quickness of [their engagement] was a red flag to me,” Kris told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Monday’s Access Hollywood Live.
“Kim was very calm during the wedding process maybe that was a red flag. I don’t know… she felt at the time that she was very much in love,” Kris, who was promoting her new book, “Kris Jenner . . . And All Things Kardashian,” continued. “I’m not sure at what point she thought she couldn’t carry on.”
The Kardashian matriarch told Billy and Kit that reports suggesting that Humphries was essentially recruited to be Kim’s groom were “ridiculous.”
“We’re talking about two people who have feelings, who have to work through it. She’s not the first person in the world who has gone through a divorce,” she explained.
When asked if Kim, who traveled to Humphries’ home in Minnesota over the weekend, could possibly make up with her ex, Kris was unsure, saying, “I have no idea.”
Kris also shot down rumors that Kim was returning her diamond engagement ring to her estranged husband.
“I doubt that very much. I don’t think she needs to fly to Minnesota to… I don’t think she’s thinking about jewelry right now. She’s trying to mend her heart,” she said.
But does Kris think her daughter could end up back with NFL star Reggie Bush, who she dated from April 2007 to July 2009 and then again from September 2009 to early 2010?
“Reggie’s a great guy, I always had a good feeling about Reggie, but I also liked Kris,” she told Billy and Kit. “I don’t know what her choice will be ultimately.”
Adding, “Kim has a really big heart, she’s just trying to do what she thinks is best right now, so we’ll see what happens.”
Despite their recent turmoil, the Kardashian clan is able to keep their sense of humor – even when they’re the butt of the joke.
On this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live, " the family was spoofed in a sketch titled, “Kardashian Divorce Special” with Nasim Pedrad as Kim, Andy Samberg as Humphries, Abby Elliott as Khloe, Vanessa Bayer as Kourtney and Kristen Wiig as mom Kris.
“Probably one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in my life. I hate to admit it, but they had me spot on,” Kris said of the sketch. “I tell my kids, ‘Don’t take yourself too seriously.’ We have a good sense of humor about ourselves and we were laughing right along with them. It was great.”

Lindsay Lohan Checks In & Out Of LA County Jail

Lindsay Lohan sits in court during her probation violation hearing at the Airport Courthouse in Los Angeles on November 2, 2011 Lindsay Lohan was released from a Los Angeles County jail early Monday, less than five hours after she arrived at the suburban women’s lockup to serve a 30-day sentence for violating probation.
The “Mean Girls” actress was booked into the Century Regional Detention facility in Lynwood at 8:50 p.m. Sunday, in what was expected to be a short stay because of jail overcrowding.
Deputy Tony Moore said Lohan was released early Monday, but didn’t have an exact time. News crews staking out the jail said she left at 1:40 a.m. in a black Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicle, and that she was in her Venice home by 2 a.m.
Lohan had until Nov. 9 to report to the jail.
It’s Lohan’s fifth jail sentence since being arrested twice for drunken driving in 2007.
On Wednesday, a judge ordered jail time because Lohan recently violated court orders by getting booted from a community service assignment at a women’s shelter.
The judge imposed a complicated sentence, telling Lohan that she will now have to perform all of her community service at the county morgue or risk serving an additional 270 days in jail.
The sentence also requires Lohan to undergo psychotherapy sessions and appear monthly at court hearings between December and March. The judge also said Lohan can no longer leave the country and needs the permission of her new “no-nonsense” probation officer to travel outside California.
Jail overcrowding has led to significantly shortened jail terms.
In 2007, Lohan spent 84 minutes at the jail before being released, and in the past she has served about 20 percent of her sentence, which is roughly six days.
Lohan will have to serve 423 hours at the county morgue, where for nearly two weeks she has been mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms and washing dirty sheets.

Prince Harry Surprises Arizona Restaurant Patrons

The western Arizona town of Gila Bend got a visit from royalty when Prince Harry dined with about 30 military companions at the Little Italia Restaurant.
Friday’s royal visit came as a big surprise to the staff and restaurant owner Antonino Buccellato. He tells The Arizona Republic newspaper that Harry ate a pizza covered with pepperoni, bacon and sausage.
Locals have been wondering if they would get a chance to see the third in line to the British throne. Buccellato says patrons recognized the prince and began whispering and talking to one another, but nobody got up and asked to speak to him.
Prince Harry is in Arizona for Apache helicopter training at the Gila Bend Air Force Auxiliary Field.

Bieber, Gaga Dominate MTV Europe Awards

The MTV Europe Music Awards turned into a celebration of Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga Sunday night as the two picked up a number of top prizes, including best male and best female act.
Gaga, striking in several outfits throughout the evening, also won for best song and best video for “Born This Way.” Bieber picked up best pop act as well.
Their live performances captured the differences between the two ascendant mega-stars: the teenage Bieber, wholesome and almost impossibly cute; Gaga challenging and aggressively sexual in her approach.
Other awards went to Bruno Mars, Eminem and Katy Perry while the band Queen received the “Global Icon” award, in effect a lifetime achievement award to the now-graying rockers, who closed the show with a spirited set of their classics, including “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.”
It was a rousing end to the awards show, a highlight on the European music calendar that also draws A-list stars from the United States. It was held in Belfast, Northern Ireland, for the first time.
Queen guitarist Brian May said the show focused attention on how Belfast had found “true peace” after years of sectarian violence.
“It’s wonderful to be in Belfast,” he said.
The show also included a video tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, who died earlier this year in London.
But the evening was dominated by Bieber and Gaga, the two crowd favorites.
The casually dressed Bieber said modestly that he had voted for competitor Kanye West and thanked his fans and family for his first award.
“Never say never, right?” he said, waving his trophy in the air.
After he won his second award, for best pop act, he praised his fans for staying with him despite “a lot of crap on the Internet,” an apparent reference to unsupported allegations that he had fathered a child after a brief liaison.
Bieber took the stage a few minutes after Gaga accepted her award in characteristic style.
“Thank you so much, I love you so much. I’m so grateful. I’m really smiling right now, but I know you can’t tell,” said Gaga, wearing a bizarre silver dress with an oversize tilted hat that completely covered her face except for tiny holes that allowed her to see. She joked that she had had a lot of Botox treatment.
Gaga, who has enjoyed a year of spectacular commercial success, triumphed over a strong field that included a resurgent Jennifer Lopez, Adele, Katy Perry and Beyonce.
She later won awards for best video and best song for “Born This Way.” She thanked her “little monsters” for their support and said she regarded “Born This Way” as her most important work to date. She also won an award for having the best fan base.
Earlier, Perry — dressed in a mostly pink jacket and miniskirt — won the best live act award, and the American band Thirty Seconds to Mars won best alternative act and best world stage.
American rapper Eminem was named best hip hop act and Linkin Park took the prize for best rock band.
The show featured performances by headliners Bieber, Gaga, Bruno Mars — who won for best newcomer and for “best push” — Coldplay, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snow Patrol and other top acts.
Chris Martin, the Coldplay frontman, joked that the band was just “warming everyone up for Justin” on his way into the awards ceremony, which was hosted by Bieber’s girlfriend, the actress and singer Selena Gomez.
She admitted she was nervous about her performance while being photographed on the red carpet just before the show.
The awards, which were set up in 1994, have previously featured performances by stars including U2, Paul McCartney, Take That, Beyonce and Jay-Z.

Leo Talks Taking On ‘J. Edgar’ & Bringing 3-D To ‘Great Gatsby’

Leonardo DiCaprio is hoping to help bring a fresh take to a classic story, when he stars in the latest big screen version of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel “The Great Gatsby,” slated to hit theaters Christmas 2012.
And besides a slew of sexy modern faces – Leo will share the screen with the likes of Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher in the film – the producers are also bringing another modern-day twist to the reboot: 3-D technology.
“We’re shooting ‘The Great Gatsby’ in Australia right now and what’s really cool is working with [director] Baz [Luhrmann] and this 3-D format that’s being used for drama,” Leo told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush, while promoting his latest movie, “J. Edgar,” in Los Angeles over the weekend.
“Most of the time, you associate 3-D with the spectacle of it, but he really wants to use 3-D to create emotional impact with the characters and almost use it like what it would be like to immerse yourself in a theater production,” Leo explained. “So I’m having a good time with that. Plus, it’s the great American novel.
“I’m having a great time with the material for sure,” he added.
When it comes to his current project, “J. Edgar,” Leo said there was plenty that drew him to portraying such a historic, yet controversial, figure — J. Edgar Hoover.
“What interested you in Hoover?” Billy asked Leo.
“He was always a very mysterious figure in American history. His personal life was always shrouded in mystery — I never could quite put my finger on it,” the star said. “He was this bulldog figure, he was sort of the face of the FBI, he changed our country in a time of great lawlessness where bank robbers were going from state to state robbing banks, becoming local heroes. He sort of cleaned up all that mess… he was creating this new federal police force single-handedly.
“But then, there are all those salacious rumors that you heard about him too. So, it was very exciting to see somebody’s very specific take on who J. Edgar Hoover was through these different time periods from the beginning of his career and how he was this very ambitious young man that created this police force all the way to the end of his life where he, you know, became a political dinosaur and didn’t adapt to the changing of our country,” Leo concluded.
Despite the ranging opinions on Hoover’s legacy, Leo said he didn’t see any risk in taking on the role.
“If there is a risk, I think that that may be something that other people might attribute to this character. But to me, it was a no-brainer. It’s like, how often do you get to portray somebody with this much complexity and intrigue?” Leo suggested. “I mean, this guy had a crock pot of different eccentricities and that’s like an actor’s dream.
“So I just looked at it as that perspective — like how could I not play this character?” he said.

‘Puss In Boots’ Holds Off ‘Tower Heist’ At Box Office

“Puss in Boots” pounced on “Tower Heist” and “Harold & Kumar” at the box office.
The DreamWorks 3-D animated film, distributed by Paramount Pictures, earned $33 million in its second weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday. The PG-rated film centering on the swashbuckling feline voiced by Antonio Banderas from the “Shrek” series surprisingly toppled the weekend’s two new releases, bringing its total haul to $75 million.
Universal’s PG-13 revenge romp “Tower Heist” starring Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy snatched $25.1million in the No. 2 spot, while the Warner Bros. R-rated sequel “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas” with John Cho and Kal Penn unwrapped $13 million at No. 3. Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com, said family films are tough to beat out.
“From the re-release earlier this fall of ‘The Lion King’ to ‘Dolphin Tale’ and now ‘Puss in Boots,’ it seems that the family audience is the one you can really count on right now,” said Dergarabedian. “I think the cavalry is definitely on the way though. We’ve got ‘Immortals’ and another ‘Twilight’ coming up, as well as a bunch of big releases in December.”
Anne Globe, head of worldwide marketing and consumer products at DreamWorks, said the decision to move up the opening of “Puss in Boots” to last weekend is one reason why the film experienced just a 3-percent drop, the smallest ever for a non-holiday film, ahead of the 10-percent dip for “Twister” during its second weekend of release in 1996.
“To be No. 1 again is really extraordinary,” said Globe. “It’s really an unparalleled hold driven by our two-weekend release strategy, which was pretty unprecedented in and of itself. That and the amazing word of mouth has given us tremendous momentum into November, which is a better play period for an event-level movie like ‘Puss in Boots.’”
Another animated film dominated outside of North America. “The Adventures of Tintin,” which is being distributed overseas by Sony Pictures and Paramount Pictures, scooped up $40.8 million as it grew from 19 to 45 international markets. The 3-D film, directed by Steven Spielberg and adapted from the Belgian comic series, opens Dec. 21 in the United States.
The 20th Century Fox science-fiction thriller “In Time” starring Justin Timberlake fell to No. 5 in U.S. after opening at No. 3 last weekend. “In Time” clocked better numbers overseas, earning $16.6 million in 53 markets for a second-place finish behind “The Adventures of Tintin,” while “Puss in Boots” scratched out third place with $15 million in five international markets.
___
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
1. “Puss in Boots,” $33 million. ($15 million international.)
2. “Tower Heist,” $25.1 million. ($9.5 million international.)
3. “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas,” $13 million.
4. “Paranormal Activity 3,” $8.5 million. ($14.1 million international.)
5. “In Time,” $7.7 million. ($16.6 million international.)
6. “Footloose,” $4.5 million.
7. “Real Steel,” $3.4 million. ($10.7 million international.)
8. “The Rum Diary,” $2.9 million.
9. “The Ides of March,” $2 million.
10. “Moneyball,” $1.9 million.

Kim Kardashian Heads To Australia Following Divorce Announcement

Now that Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries have gone public with their split, what lies ahead for reality TV’s former royal couple?
An unusually quiet Kim – wearing sunglasses despite the fact it was night – was greeted by a mob of paparazzi as she arrived at LAX on Monday night, the same day she filed for divorce from the NBA star. Kim is headed to Australia with sister Khloe to promote their clothing line.
Kim entered the airport without answering the avalanche of questions from reporters and photographers. Inside the airport, she was spotted not wearing her 20.5 carat diamond engagement ring, estimated to be worth $2 million.
As far as Kris goes, as previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, a rep for the athlete told Access that Kris will not be hosting or attending the pre-scheduled party at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at Paris Las Vegas this weekend.
Wedding guest and Kardashian family friend Kathie Lee Gifford weighed in with her unique perspective on the couple’s split on Tuesday.
“The only thing I saw [during their wedding weekend] that I thought was unusual – and I thought maybe [it happened] because there’s so much going on… we went to a pre-wedding party at a private home in Santa Barbara the night before [their wedding.]
There were maybe only 50 people there and I never saw them together the entire night,” Kathie Lee said on Tuesday’s fourth hour of the “Today” show, adding that sister Khloe predicted a short marriage at the couple’s reception.
“I would never have said it before, but at the reception afterwards, Khloe – who always says what she thinks – walks by me and, I don’t think Khloe would care if i said it, she goes… ‘I give it six [expletive] months, '” Kathie Lee recalled.
Kim’s stepdad, Bruce Jenner, also weighed in on the couple’s split, telling paparazzi on Monday, “All I know is Kim’s doing great… Kim’s doing great, I know.”
Despite some reports claiming the split could be a publicity stunt by the couple, marriage counselor Stacy Kaiser – who appeared on Tuesday’s Access Hollywood Live — does not buy into that idea.
“I don’t really believe that’s the case,” she said. “First of all, there has been way too much emotion behind what’s been going on between them. There’s been so much anger and sadness and resentment and it’s my belief that you just can’t fake that.”
